It’s a highly sought after designation and Port Stanley’s Main Beach has managed to keep it in place for 13 years now.
Since 2010, Main Beach in Port has meet the 33 environmental, safety and cleanliness standards in order to receive the Blue Flag designation.
In fact, Port Stanley was the first beach on Lake Erie to be granted the award. Port Burwell Municipal East Beach was also granted the Blue Flag designation this year, who first met the standards back in 2018.
The mission of Blue Flag is to promote sustainability in the tourism sector, through environmental education, environmental protection and other sustainable development practices.
This year, only 20 beaches and 9 marinas in all of Canada received the designation.
