It’s a treasured tradition for the St. Thomas Police Service and our local Special Olympic athletes. The annual Law Enforcement Torch Run returns Tuesday, with an aim at raising awareness and funds for Special Olympics Ontario.
Inspector Kim Manuel, who is also the Law Enforcement Torch Run Coordinator for the St. Thomas Police Service shares more about this important partnership.
It’s one of their two major fundraisers as Manuel points out, but in addition to these vital events, St. Thomas Police also make an effort to spend time with our athletes as much as possible.
And as Manuel says, that’s really what policing is all about.
For those unaware, St. Thomas offers a number of different sports for Special Olympic athletes to try their hand at. And Manuel notes they are always looking for more people to get involved.
Those looking to support current Special Olympic athletes and our St. Thomas Police Service, can join the excitement of the Law Enforcement Torch Run this Tuesday by cheering them on as they pass through the downtown. Manuel explains the planned route for the run that is set to kick off around 10:30 a.m.
