On Sunday, Education Minister Stephen Lecce advised in a statement that the provincial government has implemented the first regulations following passage of The Better Schools and Student Outcomes Act.
These measures are intended to refocus school boards on academic achievement and the development of life skills.
This will be achieved through getting back to the basics of education, stressed Lecce, which involve strengthening reading, writing and math and other STEM disciplines.
The reforms also include a new authority for the provincial government to set binding priorities on school boards that focus on boosting student achievement focused on reading, writing and math.
