Ontario says a new 160-million-dollar investment in a skills training program will prioritize help for people on social assistance and those with criminal records.
Labour Minister Monte McNaughton says the money is aimed at giving 100-thousand people free training in health care, auto manufacturing, I-T, hospitality and skilled trades.
It marks the fourth round of funding through the province’s Skills Development Fund.
He says around 40 per cent of people with a criminal record can’t get a second interview when job hunting, so he is calling on organizations to submit proposals to help them find meaningful work while also addressing labour shortages.
