The Elementary Teachers’ Feration of Ontario has denied Education Minister Stephen Lecce’s request to move to binding arbitration should a new contract not be reach in late September.
ETFO President Karen Brown says there isn’t a one size fits all solution.
Brown adds there’s no point in comparing her union to the high school teachers, who did agree to arbitration with the education ministry.
She says instead the union has applied for concilliation with the Minister of Labour. The process brings in a third party to find a solution, often seen as a last resort before job action.
The Elementary, Catholic and French teachers have all promised strike votes next month, but haven’t said if they’d walk off the job, leaving students and parents in limbo as the new school year begins.
