A St. Thomas Police officer was assaulted during the arrest Sunday of a female suspected of shoplifting.
26-year-old Hannah Arnison was identified as the person responsible for taking approximately $290 worth of purses from a retail store Sunday afternoon.
She was located just before midnight when officers responded to an unrelated call.
Arnison was attempting to leave the scene and refused repeated orders to take her hands out of her coat pockets. An altercation ensued and Arnison twice punched an officer in the head. Police were able to bring the situation under control without further incident.
As a result, Arnison has been charged with:

1 count Fail to Comply with Probation
1 count Resist a Peace Officer
1 count Assault a Peace Officer
