Locke's Public School Terry Fox Run 2023
Sounds of laughter and music, ear to ear smiles and an endless amount of pride filled the grounds of Locke’s Public School late last month as staff and students participated in their annual Terry Fox Run.
It’s been a staple event in the school community for years now, largely thanks to the work of Grade 4 Teachers Karen Hunt and Shannon Foley.
Hunt explains further.
And while the Terry Fox Run has occurred at Locke’s a number of times over the years, Hunt notes that this is was first event where all 657 students from JK to Grade 8 were able to run together.
It was also the first time post-Covid that the event was held in person and not virtually. Foley notes it was so great to see the students hold hands and run together again, something they haven’t been able to do for a number of years.
Foly does explain that one positive change came out of the pandemic however.
The day was elevated thanks to the work of the Terry Fox Foundation, who supplies items to schools to make the day more memorable. Foley notes that each participant of the Terry Fox run had the opportunity to proudly display a sticker of who they were running for.
Hunt adds that a very special name was written across the front of many student’s shirts, as the school community continues to remember one of their own.
The grade 4 teachers add that they are so thankful to the school community for all the support in helping them meet and exceed their $1800 goal, raising $2143 for the Terry Fox Foundation.
