Today is Day 22 of a trial in Windsor where jurors are set to hear more evidence from Crown lawyers against a man accused of murdering four members of a Muslim family in Ontario in June 2021.
Nathaniel Veltman is accused of deliberately hitting five members of the Afzaal family with his truck while they were out for a walk in London, Ontario, and prosecutors have alleged the 22-year-old’s actions amount to an act of terrorism, arguing he was motivated by white nationalist beliefs.
So far, jurors have seen a video of Veltman telling a detective he hesitated before carrying out his attack but decided to get it — quote — “over with,” hoping to inspire other young white men to target Muslims.
The jury has also heard in the video Veltman telling a detective his attack was politically motivated and that it — quote — “was terrorism.”
More details on the June 6th attack can be found in our previous stories.
