Fire Prevention Week is set to run from October 8th to the 14th and in an effort to help keep the community safe, a number of initiatives have been planned by the St. Thomas Fire Department.
myFM sat down with Chief Fire Prevention Officer Kim Destun who explains the importance of the week for local departments.
And this year’s theme is an important one, as Destun notes it focuses on being fire safe while in the kitchen.
While a number of actions can be taken to ensure fire safety while cooking, Destun points to one of the most vital.
As the STFD looks to get the community involved in Fire Prevention Week, Destun notes an open house being hosted Sunday will give residents the opportunity to ask any questions they may have.
Destun adds that they will utilize their social media channels to share a number of important fire safety tips throughout the week and will also spend some time out in local neighbourhoods doing smoke alarms blitzes.
