Elgin OPP have launched a new initiative designed to take advantage of commercial and residential security cameras.
The CAMSafe program allows police to compile a database of cameras in the community that can be used as a resource when investigating offences or reports of a crime.
Should police wish to view camera footage, they can make a request to the property owner.
Interested community members are only required to provide basic contact info and camera location. However, you can include additional details such as the direction the camera faces and screenshots of the camera view.
Registrants can only view their own information and you can delete your account or change information at any time.
Detachment Commander Jennifer Neamtz noted, “the CAMSafe program offers another opportunity for all of us to play a proactive roll in ensuring public safety by volunteering to become a part of this program.”
