Ontario’s chief medical officer of health says this respiratory virus season should be easier on the province and its hospitals than last year, but success will largely depend on levels of vaccination.
Ontario residents who are six months and older can now receive a free flu shot and an updated COVID-19 vaccine.
Dr. Kieran Moore says it is safe and convenient to get both shots at the same time.
You can get the shots at your primary care office, or through your pharmacy.
Those seeking COVID-19 vaccination at a Southwestern Public Health clinic can call 1-833-943-3900 or book online at covid-19.ontario.ca/book-vaccine.
The health unit strongly encourages the following community members to be vaccinated due to their high-risk of serious infection:
• Pregnant people
• People over the age of 65
• People who are First Nation, Inuit or Métis and their household members
• Adults with immune compromising health conditions making them more susceptible to severe illness
• Health care providers
You must wait an interval of 6 months between your last vaccination or Covid-19 infection and receiving the new vaccine formulation.
Southwestern Public Health is not offering flu vaccine to the general public at this time. However flu shots will be provided for youngsters under the age of five and their immediate family. Call the health unit to book an appointment for these specific circumstances.
