From November 5th-7th, the Student Council from St. Joseph’s represented their school at the Ontario Student Leadership Conference (OSLC) in Niagara Falls.
OSLC is the largest annual conference in Canada and the second-largest annual conference in North America. The conference aims to build the leadership skills of all those attending – the councils and advisors – and give attendees strategies on how to lead their school, community, and others in general.
Over 2,000 students from all over Ontario attended to represent their schools at the conference for a truly amazing experience. OSLC also gives each attendee countless opportunities to meet new people and create lasting friendships.
The first day of the conference served as an introduction for all the attendees as to what they would be doing. Many sponsors of the conference had set up booths to give information to the roaming students on university programs, summer camps, traveling speakers, and many more.
The rest of the day was spent with speakers who were getting the students excited for their time at the conference and introducing them to different ways leaders can operate.
On the second day of the conference, attendees went to several workshops and speakers to further immerse themselves in the experience and make the most of the trip. Later that night, students were invited to a banquet or to the Rainforest Cafe for a complimentary dinner.
The final event on that day was a semi-formal, where students came together to burn off their energy and experience a great light show right inside the conference centre.
On the third and final day of the conference, attendees went to their last two keynote presentations and participated in the final workshops, and made their way home in the early afternoon.
Overall, OSLC was an amazing experience for all involved and was a great way to learn new leadership skills, hear new ideas for school events, and meet new and awesome people to share a true connection with.
