The city’s decision to construct a roundabout at St. Catharine and Kains streets is going to be explored further.
Karen Rivers has collected over 200 names that she has presented to city council on Nov. 6 in the form of a petition opposed to the roundabout.
She is the owner of Dixie Dairy Bar and Tackle Shop and has worked at the St. Catharine Street shop for 20 years and owned the business for the past two years.
She wrote, “A roundabout is completely unnecessary in this location and will create phenomenal hardship for the Dixie.”
She continued, “Parking is already at a premium in this location but we can work with it as it is. We get some very large boats and trailers parked at the shop as you can well imagine people getting their licences and snacks for a day on the water.
“Manoeuvring through a roundabout can be extremely difficult when you have a large rig. Just ask the transport truck drivers.”
At the Nov. 6 meeting, there was unanimous support from council on a motion to refer the petition to city staff with a report to come back to council.
Meantime, a public information session dealing with concerns raised by area residents will be held in Room 304 at city hall from 6 until 8 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday).
