The province’s police watchdog is investigating an incident early Wednesday morning in which an OPP officer discharged their gun.
Around 3 a.m., Elgin OPP located a stolen taxi on Hwy. 3 near Rogers Road. They followed the vehicle into Aylmer where the driver fled on foot.
In an interaction with an 18-year-old male, one officer employed their conductive energy weapon while another officer fired her gun but did not hit him.
The teen was subsequently arrested.
Talbot Street was closed for much of the day between Caverly and Rogers roads and re-opened just before 5 p.m.
Three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case. At this time, one subject official and three witness officials have been designated.
The Special Investigations Unit invokes its mandate in circumstances involving police and civilians that have resulted in serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.
Anyone with information about this investigation, including video or photos, is asked to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at: https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php
