St. Joseph’s has a long-standing tradition of putting on amazing plays/musicals for local elementary schools and the community, and this year was no different.
After the hugely successful ‘Seussical’ production in May, the drama department started the new school year running straight into their next production: Clue.
Starting auditions in September, Mr. Bannerman’s drama department wasted no time in getting the ball rolling for this winter production. After selecting an excellent cast and crew for the intense job on the stage, Mr. Bannerman immediately started on construction of the set and the practices to ensure the show would be ready for the world, or St. Thomas, to see.
With several returning cast and crew from Seussical both backstage and on, there was skill abound, conveying to the newcomers valuable knowledge about the everyday workings surrounding the creation of a production.
With the returning cast and crew as mentors and Mr. Bannerman as an amazing role model and director, it was a certainty the play was going to be a hit, and it more than lived up to expectations.
In barely two months, the drama department was able to construct an entire set and turn students brand new to acting into seasoned performers, despite numerous setbacks throughout the entirety of the pre-production process.
With eight shows in four days, you would think every member of the cast and crew would be exhausted, but on the last day, spirits were just as high – if not higher – than on the first.
With non-stop laughs and constant interest shown by the audience, it was clear to the cast their show was a hit with kids and adults alike.
The community created through these shows is remarkable and you can feel it in every performance, even watching every performance you can’t help but be brought into the play each time with the hilarious ad-libs and the happy accidents only a diverse set of strong personalities can bring to the stage.
This year’s production is one to remember and a reminder, that despite changing times, there is always a special place in everyone’s heart for a breathtaking live performance made possible by an astounding cast and crew and a spectacular director.
