The president of the Ontario Dental Association is among those cautioning Canadians interested in the new federal dental plan that the program is not the same as insurance coverage people typically get from their employers.
Brock Nicolucci says he doesn’t want people thinking they can give up their existing dental insurance until they are crystal clear on the details of the new federal program.
The program is intended for low- and middle-income people who don’t already have access to dental-care insurance and it’s a key aspect of the federal Liberals’ supply-and-confidence deal with the opposition N-D-P.
The program is set to start accepting enrolment applications this month from qualifying seniors over the age of 87, and then slowly expand over the course of the next year to other groups.
