Today’s announcement by the Government of Ontario means it will soon be easier to buy alcohol in St. Thomas and Elgin County.
Premier Doug Ford says they are delivering on their commitment from almost 6 years ago.
The government plans to keep meeting and discussing with industry partners in the coming months about various aspects of the future alcohol market, like licensing, pricing, taxes, and fees.
Concerns were voiced by media following the announcement about the related health harms of more consumptions.
Premier Doug Ford says he understands the concerns, but that it’s time to treat the people of Ontario as adults.
Officials says the eligible retail outlets will be able to set their own prices and certain amounts of shelf space will be dedicated to small beer and wine producers.
