You can give the gift of live saving blood this holiday season.
Canadian Blood Services will be hosting two local donation events early on in the new year and appointments are still available.
We spoke with Maureen Macfarlane, Community Development Manager for Canada Blood Services who highlights the importance of blood donations. Noting it’s not just about emergencies; many patients require regular blood transfusions, and plasma becomes a vital form of medicine.
They hear all the time that the fear around donating blood often deters potential donors. Macfarlane says they recognize the courage it takes to step through the door but assures that a positive experience awaits, complete with treats.
And while blood donations are essential year-round, recent times have posed challenges stresses Macfarlane.
To the potential donors in St. Thomas and Elgin County, Macfarlane’s message is clear: donating blood is paying it forward.
Your donation could help others in the community experience more happy and healthy years ahead as roughly half of all Canadians will need blood at some point in their life or know someone who will.
Canada Blood Services will be in Aylmer at the East Elgin Community Complex on January 4th and in St. Thomas at the Joe Thornton Community Centre on the 10th and again on the 31st.
