St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital welcomed its first baby of 2024 at 4:47 Monday afternoon.
Irena Mischa McIntyre is the daughter of proud parents Tia and Damian of St. Thomas.
myFM spoke with Damian as they returned home from the hospital.
This is the first child for the couple.
Damian says they first met when Tia left her home in Vietnam to come to Canada to study.
They were married in Vietnam and spent their honeymoon in Sapa, in the northwest of that country where they visited Ham Rong Mountain.
Damian explains it is known for the tale of the baby dragons, “So apparently that’s a great spot for conceiving and our resort was at the top of the mountain. And they say if you dream of baby dragons, you are going to be blessed with a child. And I had dreams of baby dragons.”
He tells us about the thought that went into naming their daughter.
While pleasantly surprised to be the parents of the first baby of 2024 at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital, Tia and Damian were acutely aware the due date of their first child was Jan. 1.
Especially as the day got closer, explains Damian.
