The sentencing hearing for Nathaniel Veltman is scheduled to get underway today in London court.
Veltman was found guilty in November 2023 of four counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder in a June 2021 attack on a Muslim family in London.
Now lawyers for the Crown and the defence will make arguments regarding the sentence he should serve.
First-degree murder carries an automatic life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years, but the sentence for attempted murder varies based on a number of factors.
The case, which the jury heard over more than two months, was the first where Canada’s terrorism laws were put before a jury in a first-degree murder trial.
