A new pilot project being undertaken by Thames Valley District School Board looks to provide adult learners with employment while they finish their high school diplomas.
It’s set to begin this January and will enable a select number of adults who are two years or less from completing their secondary school diplomas to continue their education while working for the board as temporary custodians.
The school board will then assist these adults in completing their diplomas through the Adult and Continuing Education program. Some of their work experience and training may count towards their diplomas as well.
And once individuals complete their education, there may be the opportunity for permanent contract employment.
The board’s Director of Education, Mark Fisher said the project is part of their effort to remove obstacles to education for learners of all ages and backgrounds.
