The Humane Society is urging pet owners to take extra care to keep their pets safe and warm in frigid temperatures.
It says owners should limit the time dogs spend outside, consider dressing them in protective clothing and wipe salt and other harmful substances from their paws after a walk.
The organization also notes that cats and other wildlife sometimes hide in cars to keep warm, and recommends banging on the hood a couple times to scare them away.
