Some good news for those already over the winter weather!
Organizers in South Bruce Peninsula ushered in Groundhog Day with pre-dawn fireworks over the Wiarton Arena before Ontario’s most famous groundhog made its appearance.
Wiarton Willie didn’t spot its shadow this morning, which means we’re in for an early spring!
It’s a prediction that favours folklore over science, however a Groundhog will supposedly declare an early spring or six more weeks of winter based on whether or not it sees its shadow.
Groundhog Day is part of a tradition rooted in European agricultural life, marking the midpoint between the winter solstice and the spring equinox.
You can see it all go down on the Wiarton Willie Festival Facebook page.
