The city’s community grant policy again generated questions at Monday’s city council meeting.
The St. Thomas Golf and Country club had requested a $2,500 grant to help in a fundraising event for the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation’s Transforming Tomorrow campaign.
In his report to council, Director of Finance Dan Sheridan advised members to not approve the request becasue grant funding cannot be used for a fundrasing event.
However, when questioned by Coun. Steve Peters, the director changed course and suggested the grant be declined because the event is not taking place in the city.
A $2,000 grant request from Elder Abuse Elgin and a $3,500 ask from STEAM Education Centres were also turned down.
Kettle Creek Conservation Authority was in receipt of a $3,600 grant and the Senior’s Picnic in the Park had their $2,500 request approved.
With the approval of the two grants, the Community Grants account will be left with a balance of $18,900.
