A $24,800 grant received by the Ignite Youth Centre in September of last year was celebrated this past Friday through the unveiling of their new space.
The drop-in centre for local youth saw a packed house of supporters as Jodi Annett-Kish, Executive Director of the Ignite Youth Centre thanked the Ontario Trillium Foundation for the gift.
The Capital Grant was used to repair and renovate key areas of the centre explains Spencer Medeiros, Youth Engagement Coordinator at Ignite- ensuring youth in St. Thomas and Elgin County have a safe and healthy space to use in their own community.
The kitchen serves as a vital space for the centre, where youth have access to healthy snacks and can learn essential cooking skills for a healthier future.
Medeiros adds that programs extend outside of the kitchen, giving local youth the chance to find something they enjoy!
The mission of Ignite is to inspire, support, and engage all youth, to create an accessible environment that is fun, supportive, and inclusive. The centre serves many youths from low-income households helping them to develop skills and awareness to support healthy eating, social development, participation in physical activity, and inclusion in their community.
