After years of St. Thomas and London being isolated from each other through a lack of public transit, the two cities are about to be linked by a bus service.
St. Thomas Mayor Joe Preston made the announcement at yesterday’s (Monday’s) council meeting that beginning April 8, Voyago will operate a daily service between St. Thomas, White Oaks Mall in London and Dorchester.
The first trip will leave St. Thomas at 7:10 a.m. with several morning and late afternoon runs.
It will operate seven days a week with reduced weekend service.
The bus will leave St. Thomas from the existing transit centre in the city’s east end, with a stop in the industrial area and at Valleyview.
It will then travel up Wellington Road to White Oaks Mall in London where passengers can transfer to London Transit buses.
The one-way fare between St. Thomas and London is $5.
The service is being operated as a two-year pilot project in conjunction with Middlesex County Connect, which now operates between London and Woodstock and London and Lucan.
