Just 17 games into her professional hockey career, St. Thomas native Lexie Adzija finds herself traded right out of the country.
Just before the 4 p.m. trade deadline Monday, she was sent to Boston along with the rights to forward Caitrin Lonergan.
In return, Ottawa receives forward Shiann Darkangelo.
Adzija logged 5 goals and 3 assists for Ottawa in this inaugural season while Darkangelo had but a single point in 17 games.
Darkangelo is best known as a teammate of St. Thomas native Brittany Howard last season with the Toronto Six of the Professional Hockey Federation (PHF) where she had 25 points in 24 games and led the team to the 2023 Isobel Cup championship.
Lonergan, 26, was selected by Ottawa in the 14th round of the PWHL Draft but did not sign with the team. She spent the 2022-23 season as a member of the PHF’s Connecticut Whale where she recorded 18 points in 23 games.
