Earlier this month myFM reported on the 2024 Police Services Hero of the Year Awards with nominations closing March 18.
The nominations have been announced and they include Katherine McNeil of the St. Thomas Police Service.
The nomination announcement advises McNeil shows her leadership strengths by setting goals, maintaining high standards and valuing accountability.
It goes on to note “She is the gold standard of community policing.”
With five distinct award categories, including the “On-Duty Difference Maker” for both uniformed officers and civilian police service employees, “The Extra Mile Award” recognizing extraordinary acts of kindness or bravery off-duty, and the “Community Role Model” award highlighting those who make notable contributions outside of their professional duties, the program aims to showcase the diverse ways in which police personnel positively impact their communities.
The awards finalists will be determined in April and the winners announced in May.
