The province’s police watchdog has determined an Elgin OPP officer did not commit a criminal offence when she shot at a man last November.
Officers were looking for a man who stole a taxi at knifepoint.
They located the vehicle on Hwy. 3 just west of Aylmer and attempted to stop it.
The 18-year-old driver fled on foot and the OPP officer shot at him but missed. He was arrested a short distance away.
Special Investigations Unit Director Joseph Martino determined the officer’s discharge of her firearm was a reasonable action.
Three investigators and one forensic investigator were assigned to the case.
The Special Investigations Unit invokes its mandate in circumstances involving police and civilians that have resulted in serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.
