In a report released last week by the St. Thomas Police Service, the first quarter of the year brought about 94 reported collisions involving 168 vehicles.
The incidents have resulted in 7 injuries and, tragically, one fatality. A monthly breakdown shows a slight increase in collisions, with 30 in January, 31 in February, and 33 in March.
The most common time for a collision has been identified as 4 p.m., while no collisions were reported at 9 p.m. In terms of collision types, there were 4 pedestrian-related incidents, 18 hit-and-runs, and 3 involving cyclists.
Thursdays saw the highest number of collisions at 16, while Sundays reported the least at 9.
Police have also identified the top accident locations for the quarter as being First Avenue and Talbot Street, Chestnut Street and Fairview Avenue and Elm Street and Fairview Avenue
Additionally, impaired driving continues to be a concern, with 4 collisions involving alcohol and 1 involving drugs.
The community is urged to exercise caution, particularly during peak hours, to help reduce these statistics.
