The inaugural regular season of the Professional Women’s Hockey League has now wrapped and two St. Thomas natives are playoff bound!
Brittany Howard’s Team Toronto took first in the standings with 13 wins and 47 points overall, followed by Montreal, Boston and Minnesota to round out the top four.
Lexie Adzija, who was traded to Boston just 17 games into her professional career from Ottawa is also in after a must win game against Montreal went their way on Saturday.
Playoffs open Wednesday where Toronto will play host to Minnesota after getting the chance to pick its semifinal opponent between the third and fourth seeds. Number two Montreal will subsequently take on Boston beginning Thursday.
These will be played as best-of-five series, with the higher seeds securing home-ice advantage for games one, two, and five in each series.
Games that require overtime will be decided by playing five-on-five periods until a winning goal is scored.
