In April, the London-area saw no shift in the unemployment rate.
According to Statistics Canada’s recent data release, the jobless rate for the London Census Metropolitan Area remained stable at 6.4 per cent, the same as the previous month.
This follows three consecutive months of increases in January, February, and March. Compared to a year ago, the current rate is also two percentage points higher.
The labour force, representing individuals aged 15 and above who are either employed or actively seeking work, experienced a slight uptick in April.
Additionally, the labour participation rate, which gauges the proportion of the population involved in the labour force, edged up to 66.2 per cent from 66 per cent in March.
The London CMA encompasses areas like St. Thomas, Strathroy, and nearby communities.
Nationally, the unemployment rate held steady at 6.1 per cent, with the Canadian economy adding a net 90,400 jobs last month.
In Ontario, the unemployment rate remained relatively unchanged at 6.2 per cent in April. The province saw an increase of 25,000 jobs during this period, with the manufacturing sector contributing 5,800 jobs.
This marks the fourth consecutive month of job growth in Ontario’s economy.
