A student is getting $2500 to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher.
After a search across the province, Caitlyn Thompson was picked to receive a Community First Scholarship awarded by 94.1 myFM’s parent company- My Broadcasting Corporation.
MBC knows how important it is that local residents gain skills and further education in order to be community leaders of tomorrow and opened up the scholarship to graduating seniors who plan to attend college, university or enter the trades.
Caitlyn, who is enrolled in the Concurrent Education program at Queen’s University and is working at receiving an Honours Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Bachelor of Education degree, shared what ‘community means to her’.
Additionally, three others are getting $500 as part of the program.
Ella Tettemer from Renfrew will be attending Queen’s University in the fall and is enrolled in the Biochemistry and Life Sciences program. Her goal is to pursue a career as a Biochemist or a Biomedical Scientist where she would be conducting research to help develop new drug therapies and vaccines.
Orria Neilsen from Perth will be starting her dream program of honors archaeology at Trent University. She has been fascinated with history and archaeology for years and hopes to travel the world for work, meet new people and study different cultures. To achieve this, she will obtain her master’s degree. Her goals as an archaeologist
will to be a lead excavator on dig sites, to work hand in hand with local indigenous communities.
And Ella Warner from Welland is going to Loyalist College in Belleville to become Carpentry and Renovation Technician.
