It’s a highly sought after designation and Port Stanley’s Main Beach has managed to keep it in place for 14 years now.
Since 2010, Main Beach in Port has meet the 33 environmental, safety and cleanliness standards in order to receive the Blue Flag Designation.
In fact, Port Stanley was the first beach on Lake Erie to be granted the award.
The flag symbolizes the beach is clean, sustainably managed, and meets high safety standards.
The mission of Blue Flag is to promote sustainability in the tourism sector, through environmental education, environmental protection and other sustainable development practices.
In 2023, only 20 beaches and 9 marinas in all of Canada received the designation.
