Residents of Aylmer can now expect to see a new police cruiser patrolling the town.
The Aylmer Police has added a 2024 Ford F-150 Police Interceptor to its fleet, enhancing cost-effectiveness and versatility for the local service.
“The F-150 was the most cost-effective choice among the options considered by the police services board last fall,” stated William Vanraes, Chair of the Police Services Board. “Having now seen this cruiser, I am convinced that it meets the needs of our officers and community,” he added.
This vehicle replaces a 2016 Ford Explorer which follows a replacement schedule of approximately 8 years; significantly longer than most other police services to ensure fiscal responsibility.
The cruiser has the same v6 engine as the Explorer counter parts and is anticipated to be similar in fuel consumption. It’s also equipped with an automated licence plate recognition system which was purchased entirely through a provincial grant.
Deputy Chief Kyle Johnstone also noted that “having a truck in our fleet will eliminate instances where officers had to use personal vehicles to transport larger property. Additionally, it provides a more comfortable and ergonomic workspace for our officers during their 12-hour shifts,” added Johnstone.
