Opened in the 1960’s, the Talbotville Fire Hall is in its final months of service.
A ground-breaking ceremony was held this past Saturday for the new fire station to be situated behind the existing facility.
At the event, Southwold Fire Chief Jeff McArthur recounted the changes at the hall over the past two decades.
The new hall is being constructed on land donated to the municipality by the McCaig family, noted Southwold Mayor Grant Jones.
McArthur detailed some of the features of the new $4.3 million facility.
McArthur added when in operation, they will be able to fill their own air cylinders and wash bunker gear after fighting a blaze.
The new facility is projected to serve the needs of the municipality for the next 50 years, advised Mayor Jones.
