Four individuals needed to be rescued from the waters of Lake Erie on Monday.
OPP note that around 9 p.m., emergency services including Elgin OPP, Central Elgin Fire Services, and Elgin-St. Thomas Emergency Medical Services responded to a report of swimmers in distress off Main Beach in Port Stanley.
Police say that two individuals, a 12-year-old and a 15-year-old from Belmont, were swimming in the water when they became distressed. A 34-year-old from London and a 42-year-old from Belmont both entered the water to assist but they too, became distressed.
Members of the Central Elgin Fire Services pulled all four from the water, with three of the individuals transported to hospital as a precaution. No serious injuries were reported.
The OPP want to remind the public to educate themselves on the potential dangers associated with water activities, ensure you are familiar with the unique risks associated to the body of water you are entering and take adequate precautions to protect yourself, such as wearing a personal floatation device.
