A flag raising ceremony held at St. Thomas City Hall Friday morning has officially kicked off Elgin County Pride Week festivities.
Running August 5th to 10th, the week is a celebration of acceptance, diversity, inclusivity and respect for all across St. Thomas and Elgin County.
With Monday being a holiday, the community joined organizers, MP Karen Vecchio, representatives from council, and our local first responders, among others for an early celebration.
Spokesperson Devon Church, breaks down the number of events that have been planned to mark the week.
With such a successful turn out last year, Church is excited to bring the celebration to Aylmer once again on Monday.
A drag story time has been planned, there will be a kids area with face painting, food trucks, and vendor market- running from 1 to 4 p.m. at Optimist Park in Aylmer.
Festivities will continue throughout the week and will culminate with the big Pride in the Park event beginning at noon on Saturday.
The day will feature drag queen performances, a Pride Parade around the park, guest MC Saidat, and so much more.
Church says there will truly be something for everyone.
Church adds why it’s so important that we take the time to celebrate Pride each year.
