Southwestern Public Health is seeking the public’s help regarding a dog-biting incident Saturday in St. Thomas.
The victim was rollerblading near the corner of Fairview Avenue and Elm Street when they were bitten as the dog’s owner passed by. The owner pulled the dog away and continued to walk by.
The dog is described as a medium-sized, blue merle Australian Shepherd, medium-length coat, mottled patches of black and dark blue on grey coat, white coat on chest, blue or bright- coloured eyes and appeared overweight.
The owner is a male who was wearing a grey hoodie.
The health unit wants to confirm the vaccination status of the dog to allow the victim and their health care provider to determine next steps related to rabies post-exposure prophylaxis.
If you are the owner of the dog or have information about the incident, please contact Southwestern Public Health at 1-800-922-0096 and ask to speak with a Public Health Inspector.
