St. Thomas Police are sending a reminder out to the community following a $24,000 loss from an employment scam.
Police say they were contacted by a local resident, who after sending several e-transfers to the supposed new employer, realized they had been scammed.
The case does remain under investigation.
In order to protect yourself from fraud, St. Thomas Police want you to know the signs of a scam.
Many scams and frauds attempt to imitate government services or employers to gain access to your personal and financial information.
It may be a scam if someone:
- Demands immediate payment
- Uses threatening language
- Sends you a link and asks you to click on it
- Asks for personal or financial information
