When Royal Containers moved their corrugated products facility from London to St. Thomas in September of 2022, it was more than a relocation.
As Mike Alvarez, Plant Manager in St. Thomas notes it was an integration into the local community.
Located at 400 South Edgeware Road, Royal Containers is a forerunner in the corrugated industry, investing in equipment, technology, social responsibility and sustainability.
As one of the largest corrugated packaging companies in Southern Ontario, Royal Containers provides premium boxes, cartons, trays, pads, displays and custom corrugated products to countless businesses and can meet or exceed 100 million square feet of production annually in its 150,000 square foot facility.
But in addition to the products they make, is the creation of a safe and welcoming work environment for their employees. With just over 100 workers in St. Thomas alone, Alvarez stresses “our employees are the key thing that keep us going.” Adding that the most important part of any business is the people aspect and if you “take care of the people, they do the rest.”
Royal Containers has also developed a special relationship with local not-for-profit Harvest Hands- which repurposes food donations from farmers, bakeries, grocery stores, retailers, manufacturers, and other contributors to benefit food banks across southern Ontario.
Alvarez says its just another way they can give back to the community that welcomed Royal Containers with open arms.
