Motorcycle fatalities in Ontario have surged by 56% this year, prompting the Ontario Provincial Police to expand their aerial surveillance using a Cessna airplane.
With 39 motorcyclist deaths so far, 2024 is on track to set a 10-year high.
Among the victims are three riders under the age of 19 and two passengers.
The OPP’s Aerial Enforcement Program uses the Cessna 206 to monitor high-speed motorcyclists and other aggressive drivers. The airplane effectively spots dangerous behaviors such as tailgating and unsafe lane changes, which contribute to road fatalities each year.
The OPP is urging both motorcyclists and motorists to prioritize safety and follow traffic laws to prevent further tragedies on Ontario roads.
By driving responsibly, the public can help reduce the number of fatalities and create safer roadways for everyone.
