As local students head back to the classroom this week, don’t be surprised by an increased police presence in school zones.
The St. Thomas Police are among area forces putting a focus on back to school and educating both motorists and pedestrians on how they should behave.
That was Samantha Wakefield, Corporate Communications Coordinator with the STPS, who adds it’s an important reminder after a long summer with very little traffic in school zones.
The St. Thomas Police ask the motoring public to be extra vigilant during their morning commute as many little feet will be occupying streets and sidewalks as of this week.
Wakefield adds that this has to be a joint effort and provides some important safety tips to remember.
If you’ll be walking to school, it’s important to stay on the sidewalk, only cross at a street marking or cross walk and refrain from using devices so you can stay alert.
By taking just a few minutes to review these tips, you can help make sure area students have a safe school year.
