An inquest examining the circumstances surrounding seven deaths that have occurred at the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre in London over the past seven years will begin Monday, October 21.
All deaths happened while in custody at the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre, or after transfer to hospital.
The deceased are:
Raymond Major, 52, deceased June 6th, 2017
Ronald Jenkins, 49, deceased December 9th, 2017
James Pigeau, 32, deceased January 7th, 2018
Sean Tourand, 33, deceased March 31st, 2019
Chase Blanchard, 29, deceased June 21st, 2019
Malcolm Ripley, 41, deceased November 25th, 2020
Danny Clayton Bissonnette, 61, deceased March 24th, 2021
Under the Coroners Act, investigations into these deaths and their surrounding circumstances are mandatory.
The inquest is expected to last 15 days and Dr. John Carlisle will be the presiding officer.
Christina Varrette and Julian Roy will be the inquest counsel, and approximately 15 witnesses will be heard from.
The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 21.
