Fire Prevention Week is set to run from October 6th to the 12th, prompting the return of the St. Thomas Fire Department’s Annual Open House.
myFM sat down with Chief Fire Prevention Officer Kim Destun who first explains the importance of the week for local departments.
And this year’s theme continues to be an important one, as they hammer home the messaging on the heals of “Test Your Smoke Alarm Day.”
Adding that, it’s clearly not getting through to some people.
Destun reminds those who may have issues accessing alarms, that their non-emergency line can be called for assistance.
As the STFD looks to get the community involved in Fire Prevention Week, Destun notes an Open House taking place Wednesday will give residents the opportunity to learn more.
There will be demonstrations and valuable information on how to protect your home and family from fires.
Destun adds that they will also utilize their social media channels to share a number of important fire safety tips throughout the week.
