In celebration of Small Business Week, the Elgin St. Thomas Small Business Enterprise Centre has teamed up with myFM to highlight local entrepreneurs who are making waves in the community. Today we salute Taco House Company.
One woman’s passion for authentic food from her home country of Mexico is proving to be a tasty bonus for residents of St. Thomas and area.
Aurora Alcocer opened up Taco House Company back in the spring and she explains why they have generated a strong following in such a short period of time.
She and her husband spent a lot of time doing research when they began sourcing the ingredients they would need.
She is continuing a family tradition as her parents owned two similar eateries in Mexico for over 20 years.
Authentic is an important consideration no matter what you are purchasing. And nowhere is that more evident than the authentic Mexican food at Taco House Company.
Alcocer explains authentic begins with the way they prepare their food.
They have only been open five months and yet in that time Taco House Company has built up a large enthusiastic following.
We asked Alcocer if that was due to a secret ingredient in their authentic Mexican food.
She knows a thing or two about Mexican food as she was born and raised there, and moved to her new home in St. Thomas in 2008.
Alcocer stresses buying fresh, local ingredients is also a critical consideration at Taco House Company.
Their menu is not limited to tacos and she explains some of the other tasty eats available, including their home-made, preservative-free tortillas.
Have you got an upcoming gathering of family or friends and are looking for different munchies to serve? Ask about their fiesta trays.
Taco House Company is located at 546 Talbot Street and they welcome you Monday through Saturday from noon until 7 p.m.
