Monday is Remembrance Day and the St. Thomas Service of Remembrance will again be held at Veterans Memorial Garden on Moore Street.
Talbot Street will be blocked between Princess Avenue/Catherine Street and Ross Street/Flora Street) from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. for the march in of the Color Parties, cadets and pipes and drum parade and again after the service for the march out.
myFM spoke with Tom Marks from Lord Elgin Branch 41 of the Royal Canadian Legion about the service and what it means to him.
We asked Marks about the importance of Nov. 11 and the Legion’s pledge, We Will Remember Them.
Marks stressed the money raised through the sale of poppies stays in the community and that is for the veterans.
He noted how members of the public can support the efforts of the local branch or, better yet, become a member.
He stressed the Royal Canadian Legion is about much more than Remembrance Day, it plays an important role in the community year-round.
Marks elaborated on how money raised from poppy sales and other activities and events is distributed in the community.
