Canada Post workers are officially on strike after negotiations with their employer failed just as the busy holiday shopping and shipping season begins.
In St. Thomas and Elgin, about 80 members of CUPW Local 610 are impacted, with picket lines up Friday morning around the main postal station in St. Thomas.
Local union rep Jamie Gordon feels both sides are still far apart.
He points out the area covered by Local 610 members.
While wages are a concern, noted Gordon, so are benefits like pensions.
He notes that last time workers hit the picket line was in 2018.
Canada Post advises mail and parcels will not be processed or delivered during the duration of the national strike.
