Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers remained at the bargaining table over the weekend, aided by the presence of a special mediator. However, little progress has been made in the stalled negotiations.
With the strike now in it’s second week, the Crown corporation has presented proposals including an offer of seven-day-a-week parcel delivery and for current employees, an 11.5 per cent wage hike over four years with more paid leave.
And as a result of the ongoing strike, the Crown said Saturday it has seen a shortage of more than eight million parcels compared with the same period last year.
Canada Post added the ripple effects of the labour disruption are having a major impact on small businesses, charities and remote communities.
