The Ontario government is introducing new legislative changes aimed at enhancing dementia care and supporting seniors and their caregivers.
The proposed $80 million investment over three years will fund several initiatives.
These include requiring dementia programs in long-term care homes, expanding access to services for seniors living at home, and offering more respite and adult day programs for caregivers.
Additionally, $9 million will support the Alzheimer Society’s First Link program, and $6 million will fund GeriMedRisk, a telemedicine service for clinicians.
The Ford government’s goal of these changes is to provide better care for seniors, promote healthy aging, and ensure caregivers have the support they need.
The province says the efforts are part of a broader strategy to meet the growing needs of Ontario’s aging population.
